Why be a Broncho?

In the Bayless School District, we give our dedicated team members the chance to make an impact in a diverse community that values education.

Open Positions

What we offer

Competitive Pay and Excellent Benefits

Bayless strives to have pay on level with the St. Louis region, which is higher than most parts of Missouri. Insurance for the employee is paid by the Board of Education, with options to add family members (spouse, children). Starting pay for a first-year teacher with a bachelor's degree for the 2024-25 school year is $46,000, with step increases yearly.

Bayless also has a robust after-school activities program. Staff members can sponsor activities to tap into their passions and increase compensation.

A Community that Cares

Bayless is a small, tight-knit community in South County. With a PreK-12 enrollment of under 2,000, teachers, students and staff can be known, seen and heard. Bayless families support the school and trust the district to do what is best for their students.

Access to the PEERS/PSRS Pension System

Working for Bayless gives you access to one of the best public school pensions in the country, the Missouri Public School Retirement System. Members of PSRS or PEERS (one for certified staff, one for classified staff) have the option to retire with full benefits after 30 years of service, with other options available based on factors like age, etc. This opens the possibility for teachers who begin after college to retire in their early 50s and work another job/career to continue to invest in their future.

Opportunities to Learn and Pursue Passions

All new teachers are paired with a master teacher for two years. Mentees/mentors meet regularly, and the mentor provides ongoing support and feedback through peer observation. Teachers with experience are paired with a highly qualified "buddy" who supports them. All teachers can observe other teachers through a peer observation process.

Bayless teachers have the opportunity to develop skills as teacher leaders through participation in our K-12 Curriculum Chair program and/or Professional Learning Committee. Emerging leaders are supported through professional learning in the areas of leadership development and effective communication, and they form collaborative partnerships with each other through participation in our K-12 Teacher Leadership Academy.

Teachers are given ample professional learning opportunities, both in-district and otherwise. Bayless also offers an unmatched tuition reimbursement program for teachers pursuing job-related degrees.

A group of seniors wanted to thank teachers who had an impact on them — so they worked with our communications department to surprise them on video!

The St. Louis Lifestyle

A horse mascot looks upon the St. Louis Skyline

St. Louis has something for everyone. There are dense, vibrant, urban neighborhoods, newer-style suburbs and everything in between within driving distance of Bayless' campus. St. Louis's downtown skyline and the Gateway Arch are visible from parts of our grounds.

St. Louis is frequently mentioned as one of the largest metropolitan regions in the country where home prices are still accessible. Our food and nightlife scene also rivals those of larger cities.

Many St. Louisans talk about the number of free amenities available to all. The World-Class St. Louis Zoo, the Art Museum, and Forest Park — one of the nation's best urban parks — are all free.

If you are into sports, St. Louis has the 11-time World Champion Cardinals, the NHL's Blues and St. Louis City SC MLS Club. It is also a short road trip to an SEC (Mizzou) and Big Ten (Illinois) Campus.

St. Louis is also on the tour route for most major music acts and is the location for The Muny (the nation's second-oldest outdoor theatre), The Fabulous Fox Theatre, and the St. Louis Opera.

In terms of your development, higher education is a big deal in St. Louis. If you are considering pursuing a graduate degree via Bayless' tuition reimbursement program, there is a considerable chance a university within the metro area has the program you want.
