Portrait of a Bayless Graduate

Prince is a Collaborative Communicator, who often encourages his classmates. He is the first person to notice when one of his classmates feels sad and will offer a hug, a pat on the back, or stand close by until they are ready to play.

He is great at using his words to ask why his friends may be sad and tries to cheer them up.

Additionally, Prince a strong student, and watching him grow during his time at the ECC has been amazing. We cannot wait to see what he does at Bayless Elementary School!

Ryan is a problem solver every day in his second grade classroom.

He is incredibly helpful to his classmates, asks questions and wants to learn. It shines brightest when they are working on their writing. Learning English grammar can be tricky, especially when it is your second language.

During a recent editing assignment, Ryan stepped up to assist a peer who spoke Arabic. He helped them solve the grammar problems by translating through their native language, which empowered the student to understand and apply the changes on their own.

He continues to be a star and leader in his class, and we cannot wait to see what he will do in the future.

Sophomore Sophia McCrady has been a Collaborative Communicator this semester in her English class with Mrs. McAllister. The class recently read Shakespeare's Julius Caesar and discussed it in a Socratic Seminar. Sophia stepped up and led many of the conversations, finding connections in the text, relating the topics to real life and analyzing the dynamics of those grasping for power in the story.

Her work in the class is a big sign of her growth as a student and a leader! She has a fantastic future ahead of her.

Charles Fritschle is new to Bayless this year but has consistently excelled in his classes and helping others, which is why he is being recognized as a Global Citizen. Three different teachers nominated him!

He leads by example in his classes, completing his work diligently, actively participating, and answering questions. His teachers have noted that he is quick to help his classmates troubleshoot technology problems, which helps everyone’s learning. He genuinely cares for those around him and has been an excellent addition to our school.

We are proud that Charles is a Broncho and cannot wait to see what he does in the future!

Soniya Gurung was nominated by her teacher, Mrs. Bruce, as a Global Citizen.

Soniya is a leader and role model for her second-grade class. She is focused, works hard, and seeks ways to learn and grow. When she works on a problem, she will use the various strategies taught to her to solve it. She does great in groups, too. No matter who she is working with, she can clearly explain her ideas and will spend an equal amount of time listening to other's ideas as well.

She likes to help others solve problems. Recently, another student in Soniya's class lost something important to her. Soniya remembered seeing it in another part of the school and went with her classmate to find it.

Her presence makes her classroom a happier, kinder place! We can't wait to see what she will achieve in the future.
 

Vivien Duka was nominated as a Collaborative Communicator for her contributions in a Project Lead the Way class. Vivien has truly emerged as a classroom leader this semester.

During a recent project, her lab group was tasked with creating a video demonstrating exercises to help a patient regain their range of motion after an injury. Vivien took the lead on the video, which was excellent. Vivien has a talent for bringing people together toward a common goal, which shone through during the project. She accomplishes this with consistency, a kind attitude toward others and a smile.

Her talents and hard work extend beyond the classroom — Vivien is heavily involved in extracurricular activities. She performed in the Theatre Company's recent fall play and played on the 12-4 softball team!

Aryan was nominated by his teacher for being a Collaborative Communicator. Recently, a new student joined his class who mainly speaks Dari. When he heard that, Aryan jumped in to let Ms. deJong know that he could help translate for the student, since he speaks both Dari and English. Aryan has been making sure his classmate settles in well!

Aryan is kind and compassionate with everyone. He is frequently helping his other classmates during group work time, too.

He has a bright future ahead of him!

Trenton was recognized as a Critical and Creative Thinker, but he could have been any of the four competencies. He's a diligent worker in his classes, making the most of the time he has to learn.

Recently, his work in science class with Mrs. Randecker has been outstanding. His class was working on an energy simulation, and while everyone was discussing, he quickly put the various pieces together to make the simulation function. He works well in groups, helping provide direction while allowing others to participate.

His hard work and kindness towards others will be a great help to him in his future at Bayless and beyond.

Emmy Knetzer is a student in the Early Childhood Center's Blue Room. On Fridays, students take home sheets and bedding. Sometimes, getting the bedding into their backpacks is challenging. After Emmy figured out how to get her bedding into her backpack on a recent Friday, she took the initiative and asked other students if they needed help. She worked with multiple students to get their backpacks zipped up and hung back in their cubbies.

Alannah Henson is involved in a little bit of everything. She is a part of the Bronchettes dance team, the Bayless choir and attends classes at South Tech. She also holds a job at Ted Drewes while doing all of this.

On top of that, she is an A+ tutor in a third-grade class at Bayless Elementary. Every morning, she models our Portrait of a Graduate Values — especially how to be a Global Citizen — for the students she tutors. She does this in Ms. Hobbs's class, in which she was a student of her own in elementary school. Ms. Hobbs has been delighted to have Alannah in her class for a second time.

Alannah has a bright future ahead of her, and her hard work will take her far.
