Portrait of a Bayless Graduate

The Portrait of a Bayless Graduate is the aspirational guide for Bayless Schools. Teachers, staff, administrators and community members work hard to give students the opportunity to graduate with the competencies outlined in the portrait.

Background

The Portrait was developed using research from The Future of Work, State of the St. Louis Work Force, The Power of Transportable Skills and other sources. A committee of students, community members and Bayless staff set out to answer these three questions:

  • What are the hopes, aspirations, and dreams that our community has for our young people?
  • What are the skills and habits of mind that our children need for success in this rapidly changing and complex world?
  • What are the implications for the design of the learning experiences—and equitable access to those experiences—we provide in our school systems?

The committee settled on the following four competencies that will prepare students for success after graduation in whatever they choose to pursue:

  • Collaborative Communicator
  • Critical and Creative Thinker
  • Problem Solver
  • Global Citizen

Future Focused Friday

Future Focused Friday is a student-recognition series that goes on during the school year. Biweekly, Bayless highlights a student who is exemplifying a competency of the Portrait of a Graduate.

Junior Lauren Krahling is an accomplished clarinet player, great student and Global Citizen. She recently performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City with Webster University's Young People's Symphonic Orchestra. It was a very cool weekend and reflection of the practice and skill she has a musician. We are so proud of her work with Bayless Broncho Bands and her diligence in the classroom.
