About Bayless
Bayless is a small school district in St. Louis County that serves over 1,900 students. Our students come from a variety of places. Some have lived right next to the Bayless campus their whole lives, while others have recently come from Africa, Asia, Europe or other countries in the Americas.
Bayless staff members pride themselves on giving students the opportunity to become Smart, Good and Strong. BSD graduates are equipped to lead character-filled lives and pursue the American Dream.
Bayless Mission Statement:
The Bayless School District will provide a safe and enriching environment where ALL children will learn to become responsible and empowered citizens, where diversity builds character and strength, knowledge enhances freedom and opportunity, and commitment leads to success.
The foundation of BSD is Character Education. BSD’s core ethical values are inspired by a letter allegedly written by President Abraham Lincoln in which he implored his young son’s headmaster to teach his son Tad to be Smart, Good and Strong. Character Education at Bayless is alive and has grown and spread organically, receiving 35 Promising Practices Awards with all schools earning Missouri and National School of Character recognition: Bayless Elementary in 2011 and 2021, Bayless Junior High in 2009, 2015 and 2020, and Bayless High School in 2015 and 2021. Today, BSD is one of the most culturally diverse districts in the State, representing over 30 nationalities.
