PEABODY/LOGOS AWARD
Second grade teacher, Mrs. Staci Pruitt, was honored as Leader in
Education, by Peabody Energy. She was selected based on her commitment
to children and families and her desire to instill civic responsibility in
children. She was selected by a committee of top educators and community
and corporate leaders. Mrs. Pruitt was honored at a dinner held at the
Ballpark Hilton in St. Louis and was congratulated by Governor Jay Nixon.
Along with the award, Mrs. Pruitt received a $1000.00 grant to be used any
way the honoree wishes.
ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT
Baseline data was collected and analyzed in the areas of reading and
mathematics. Every student was screened in reading using AimsWeb and
Benchmark assessments. Through Data Teaming, data was analyzed and
critical decisions were made in terms of interventions and reading level
placements. In the area of mathematics students were given a pretest
through Everyday Mathematics and the newly purchased AimsWeb math
assessment. AimsWeb assessments in both reading and math are
standardized tests and will assist us in determining how well our students
are learning compared to other students across the nation. AimsWeb tests
are administered several times throughout the school year. The use of Data
Teams ensures data for every single child is carefully examined and
decisions to support the individual child’s learning are made.
